The legal protection of foreign investment in China has until now never been subject to comprehensive academic treatment. However, the Foreign Investment Law of the People's Republic of China of 1 January 2020 creates a special incentive to do so, as the legislation – something of a basic law for foreign investment – addresses numerous facets of such legal protection. In her work, Maja Ruhl analyses whether and to what extent the new legal framework will have an impact on the protection of foreign investments.
